Making Kitchens More Comfortable For The Family

By Milrika Ekilski

Most people believe that the heart of any home is the kitchens. For this to be true the kitchen must be comfortable, homey feeling, and clean. When family and friends stop by for a chat and a cup of coffee we want them to feel comfortable. When throwing a dinner party every ones favorite part of it is when all the guest are gathered around the kitchen while the food is being cooked. No one can feel at home in a dirty and cluttered kitchen.

We all want our guest to feel at home when visiting. The best way to do this is to add little homey touches to the area. You can add a beautiful picture, or an antique vase. Any little thing can add warmth to the room. You just have to find something that fits your kitchen decor. Using the right colors on your walls and furniture can also help to add a comfortable feel.

When you use bright colors in a room it seems to make it feel loud. Instead try using warm and light colors to bring out the soft side of your kitchen. Many people feel that wood tends to lend this feel as well. Try adding a wooden pot rack or dish rack and see how much of a difference it makes. You can do a lot with wooden items.

Adding a wooden dining table to the room is also a great idea. You can find many different tables made from oak, cedar, maple and many other types of wood. If you have chairs with cloth seats you can recover the seats to match the decor and completely change the look of your table.

Adding bar stools to your kitchen will also lend that homey feel to the room. Bar stools can give you more seating options and let your friends sit closer to the cooking area while you are making dinner. Try using plants to make the room more inviting. You can put them in a corner of the room or even on the top of your cabinets.

Keep your kitchen from getting cluttered or crowded. When there are too many items in a room it starts to feel cluttered when your guest and family try to gather in to talk and visit. When being squeezed into an over crowded room it is difficult to be comfortable.

When you start to feel that your room is too cluttered you should do a cleaning to get rid of things. Look around your kitchen and find everything you can do away with. You could add a few wall shelves to give you more space, organize, and to add beauty to the room.
